Flowing out of the high mountains of Southern Wyoming, the Encampment River tumbles down a steep canyon, through miles of remote wilderness, and then begins to wind its way through Ranch land. After a few miles, the river again throws itself down a canyon and into the North Platte River. Whether you prefer smooth slicks, bouldering pocket water, riffles or cut-banks, this river has it all. Everything an angler dreams of is found in this classic trout stream and provides a world-class angling experience.

Float Trips:
If you are like us and love fishing dry flies on wild, freestone rivers, this trip is for you. This mid-sized river will challenge anglers of all skill levels and keep you coming back year after year. With Rainbows, Browns, and Cutthroats averaging in the 15" - 17" range and 20" plus monster caught regularly, this river is a favorite of many clients and guides.
The Lower Encampment is best fished from rafts and also offers limited wade fishing opportunities. This is a very unique float trip and lasts only around three to five weeks depending on the season and the annual snow pack. Mid-June through Mid-July brings Green Drakes, Caddis, PMD's, and very large fish to the surface. The rainbows in the Encampment are some of the most beautiful, acrobatic fish you'll find and make for some exciting hook-ups!
Overnight Hiking Wilderness Fishing Trips:
Hiking and fishing along the Encampment River Trail is a true wilderness experience. With sixteen miles of public water, the fishing opportunities are unlimited. Spend the day hiking and fishing along the river and enjoy the evening camped beneath the stars. A typical day includes a streamside breakfast, hiking and fishing throughout the day, setting up camp, dinner, and fishing the evening hatch. This trip allows anglers to fish water very few people ever see and experience the river/hatches throughout the entire day. We customize each trip to suit your group size and physical condition.
"…it was honestly the best float trip we've experienced. We were not expecting the quality of the fish in that river and the intimate nature of the stream…And working with a top-notch guide certainly doesn't hurt."
